How to Start a Home Based Computer Repair Business

Start a home based computer repair business and turn your knowledge of it into a money making home business. Are you the person everyone calls when they have a computer problem? Have you considered making money  from fixing near-fatal errors and turning your PC knowledge into a business?

Many people who start this business first became involved with computers as a hobby. Perhaps you were the only person in your office, classroom or area  who could get the  printer to work, install backup systems, WiFi, network computers and  fix printers. Maybe you arrived here through the software side, helping friends and family get online with e-mail and web surfing. The one thing you can be sure of is that there’s a big difference between having a hobby and running a business as your own boss.

If you love computers and have a lot of experience building and repairing or comparing them, consider starting your own computer repair business at home. You will be doing a job that you love, with the ability to earn money and quit your regular 9 to 5.

Create a unique name to brand your business, instead of using your real name. Names like Quick PC fix or computer repair village, etc. When someone has a problem with their computer, you want them to think of your business name. You also need to determine what computer services have most demand so you can specialize in a particular field and have an edge over your competition. If you plan to remain a one-person operation, the residential market may suit you best.

You have to create a space for your business. Unlike most home businesses that require a computer desk, computer, fax, printer, and computer and file storage, a computer repair business will need a lot of extra space to store hardware.  You want to have computer parts that your client's computers may need. Making them available at all times will help you to fix a computer faster and please your clients.

Check to see how much they charge, as this will help you to create your own hourly fees. You should charge on the low end  when you are first starting out, but as your business grows, your prices should grow too. There are individuals who are making $70 – $100 or more per hour because PC users will always need someone to repair them.

Once you decide to start your computer based work at home, you need to get a business license and liability insurance. Then start marketing your services. This business services help individuals and small businesses maintain computer equipment by providing expert knowledge and personal attention to customer service.

Depending on your expertise, you can repair

  • internal issues,
  • perform virus removal,
  • increase computing speed.

As a home-based business owner, your overhead expenses are typically less than those who operate a storefront business.
