I Want To Show You My Trades In Advance

I trade a lot of things in different time frames. Apart from my daytrading I trade options on futures, ETFs, Indices and a few stocks. The instruments I trade on these longer time frames are listed below.


I'm looking for a way to share these proposed trades, before the trade, with readers for an educational purpose only. I do not advocate that anyone should follow my trades as your risk tolerance, financial situation and understanding are unknown to me and I'm not a financial adviser, but I think that seeing the trades may provide a benefit to you and give you ideas for your own portfolio.


I'll let you know how I'm going to do this as soon as I work it out, but I want to show the trades I am going to put on, why I am putting them on and what I expect out of each trade.


After the option trade I spoke about a few days ago, I got quite a few emails from people who are interested in these longer term trades as they cannot or do not want to sit in front of a screen all day. The idea behind these trades is that I put them on before the market opens so I can concentrate on my day trading, or just on doing something else.


Anyone that has ideas about adding to my list, leave a comment or email. As long as it is liquid enough, I'll have a good look at it.


In any case, I'll show the trades I intend to put on and then show the results when I take them off. Tightrope walking - no net.


This is an attempt to engage you in these trades so you can follow them as they unfold, if you want, as just another way of learning. I hope you get some great ideas from what I do and benefit from them.

My Big Bang Theory

A few years ago, my neighbor called me and asked if I'd watched that new show, The Big Bang Theory. I hadn't even heard of it, so she just giggled and told me I had to watch it. The next night, my engineer hubby & I watched it and nearly died laughing. We know Leonard, Raj, Howard, and Sheldon in real life. These are our people and we embraced the show with open arms.


But here's what annoys me - I get Leonard's obsession with Penny. She's pretty, and perky, and girly. That's what every guy wants, right?


Is it?


I don't think so. While I loved the interplay between the guys on the show and understood every nerdy scientific joke, I detested Penny. I spent too many years as a teen falling head-over-heels for nerdy guys who would only put me in the friend category because I wasn't a cheerleader. Or pretty. Or perky. Or girly. That sucked.

I've come to love the show more, though, as they introduced Bernadette and Amy Farrah Fowler (played by Mayim Bialik - who I worshiped in the early '90s when she played Blossom). Now these were girls I could relate to. They're funny, quirky, and totally nerdy. Finally some of these guys were getting some action (though if you watch, you know Sheldon & Amy's relationship isn't exactly normal) with some pretty cool girls.


But I still felt bad for Leonard. He continued to be hung up on Penny, who, in my opinion, always treated him like he should be grateful she bothered to date him. This season, as they slowly find their way back to each other, I see the playing field leveling. Leonard finally has a bit more say in their relationship, which I LOVE. He should! Just because he's the nerd and she's the hot girl doesn't mean she's better than he is. I think Penny's starting to realize he's more than just her nerdy next door neighbor that she can toy with, which I do find kinda sweet.


So, tell me, how do you feel about the nerdy guy dating the hot girl? Should the hotter person have more power in the relationship than the nerdy character? Would you like to see more of the nerdy girl with the nerdy guy? Or are you cool with whatever?

Monday's Are Really OK

Mondays are OK. Today was OK. Mostly in the DAX.


The chart below is the Euro future. One good trade and the other I scratched when it went nowhere.


As I said before, markets rhythms have changed and are still changing. Sitting in front of the screen all day is tough. Watching just one market, as non CP traders should, is even tougher if it's a market that's not moving. Discretionary trading needs a lot of discipline. It's very easy to go off piste and lose it due to anxiety to earn or through impatience.


The Renko chart takes out a lot of the noise.

cracking summer.....

Hi Everyone.


What a cracking summer it is here in Oz. When i think back on my 4 years living in London, all i see is grey, miserable weather and lots of "drizzle" No sunshine, no crazy summer thunder storms, no swimming to cool yourself down, just grey. How lucky are we to be living in a country where you can wake up, see sunshine most mornings and smile!

London was a fabulous time in my life and it taught me a lot.  One of the things i now love about Australia that i didn't previously, is getting to know your community. You see I come from a VERY small town in NSW, the kind of place where everyone knows everyone and sometimes you feel like you have no privacy because no matter what you do, someone you know will see you do it.  


But here and now, in a completely different world it feels, i relish the opportunity to get to know my neighbours, my local businesses, my local sporting teams, my local supermarket servers. Working 7 days a week makes it a little harder, but i am slowly learning more and more everyday, meeting great people and discovering great businesses. 


These days, your local community extends further than just the area you live in. I am so glad to have met some really amazing people in my industry. So i just wanted to give a big thank you today, to some great businesses i think, make the world a better place.

Connect with Googlers and users in our Google+ Help Desk Hangouts

There’s nothing quite like talking to your customers face to face—being able to hear their feedback and questions directly, and strengthening those relationships. A message we come back to again and again on the Small Business Blog is the importance of connecting with and understanding your customers, whether you’re a small business or a company as large as Google. And so, a few months ago, the Google+ Pages team decided to practice what we preach by giving Page admins an opportunity to connect with us via a Google+ Hangout.

The response was overwhelming. Over the course of three hours, our team met with more than 350 Google+ users. We got to know one another, collected feedback, and listened to what business owners had to say about Google+ Pages.

Yesterday we hosted another round of these Help Desk Hangouts. We know not everyone can always make it for these, so we’ve collected a few of the more common questions we hear from business owners and answered them here:

Why should I have a Google+ Page?

Where to begin? Google+ offers you an incredible array of tools designed to help you get closer than ever to your customers. Use Hangouts to meet face-to-face, use circles to tailor your message to different audiences, and Ripples to figure out who’s sharing your content. You can also use Search on Google+ to tune into the conversation in real-time. Finally, Google+ is growing every day, and you want to make sure you’re where your customers are going.

How can I get people to follow me on Google+?

There are a number of things you can do here. Be sure to cross-promote. Put a brand badge on your website to let your customers add your page directly to their circles. Include links to your page in the e-mails you send and even create an “Add Us On Google+” sign to put up in your store. Second, identify the people who matter in your industry. Find them with search and Ripples, and build relationships from there. By resharing your content, they can help you build your audience. Third, and most importantly, post quality, creative, and exclusive content on your page. People will spread the word about things that excite, engage, and impact them.

Any other advice for creating good content for my page?

Google+ is fantastic for sharing videos and photos, so you should use rich media to spice up your updates. You should also use an informal, conversational tone. It goes a long way toward making your page seem approachable. Include calls to action that encourage your customers to engage — ask them questions about what they’re looking for, what they like and any feedback they may have about your product and services. Post information they can’t get anywhere else — let them know that Google+ is the place to look for the most up-to-date information about your company. And most importantly, just have fun! We’re learning too, so we’d love to hear what works (and what doesn’t) for you and your page.

How I run my Trading Today

When I started this blog in October 2009, a father teaching his daughter how to trade, I was very much a discretionary trader.

I had worked with automated trading in the past but had rejected it due to the fact that I had learned to trade so profitably as a discretionary trader that the performances of the algos I created, did not come close to mine.

Time marched on, technology evolved, my methodologies matured and my geek IT specialist daughter, who became CP as a discretionary trader,said that we should try algo.

So we did.

Firstly, the technology developments made algo trading a whole new ball game. While an algo still does not do as well as I do as a discretionary trader, lots of other benefits appeared:

• I catch trades on any market that is active
• I diversify so if there is a drawdown in one market, another can be profitable
• I don't have to trade big size on just one market
• I don't have to sit there all day waiting for trades

and the list goes on.

I now trade a few hours a day and let FloBots carry the load about 14 hours a day, increasing to 24 hours a day shortly.  I have basically diversified myself.  There are traders who have realised that they can overcome a lot of their own issues by going algo and putting their smarts into the creation and management of an algo. Others use an algo just to test their discretionary trading ideas. One size definitely doesn't fit all but it seems to me that if a trader is not taking advantage of the technology available today, he is definitely missing a lot.

This morning, London was quiet ahead of the monthly jobs report. The stock market popped on the report.

But I was in the "Oil bidness". Trading commodities such as oil and even markets such as beanz (Soya Beans - one of the original Chicago markets along with Live and Feeder Cattle) may be making more money recently than the financials. A trader can't be locked to one market as we were in the pit. The advantage of being upstairs is that we can trade what is moving.
