This is what I woke up to. We'll it was dark when I woke up but as soon as it was light I saw this and took a pic. It's taken from the top floor of the farmhouse where we have our trading and entertainment room. The building on the left is a barn that you have seen before. This is the first snow down here in our valley for about a month or more. It will also top up our local ski areas (Chamonix, Megeve and more) about a 1,000 meters above us. We're only twenty minutes from the closest big ski area. Can hardly wait. Flo can do most of the work. I'll play. The DAX opens at 8am local time here and I can ski happily two hours later if the sun is shining. The U.S. RTH opens at 3.30pm so I can work again then.

Making $ with the ES and The Best of All Worlds
This month will be the completion of a big project for me. I've been working on rationalizing my trading business into what makes the most money and the utilization of my capital, all with the least amount of screen time.
I've been tracking my P and L and use of capital and have come to the conclusion that I should do the following:
- Day trade as a discretionary trader for a few hours a day or as much as I enjoy it. This will not only make the most money per $ invested but will keep my head in the game. If I would only trade for a few hours a day as a discretionary trader, there is a limit on my size - both for my own psychological deficiencies as well as the problems of trading size with my style in the less liquid markets such as the DAX. This will use a very small percentage of my capital as day trade margins are very small. I expect that this will contribute about 10% of my monthly earnings.
- Autotrading a portfolio of different markets and different algos for the same markets. I will get diversification from both markets and the differences between algos trading the same market in different broker's accounts). My investment will be both in margin and drawdown and I will allocated about 25% of my capital to this and expect about 60% of my monthly earnings to be provided by FloBot activity.
- Option trading will utilise the balance of my investment capital doing the longer term strategies I have spoken about. This will bring in about 30% of my monthly earnings.
The nett affect of this will be a lot more time to do other things I want to do. It also provides a great deal of more passive (less active) income.
I'm talking about this because I think that it is important to be aware of the many ways of profiting in our industry. Perhaps you start out as a discretionary trader, perhaps as an auto trader. But there are limitations of either capital or time and there may be other ways you can make the money you want to other than what you first start to do. Most of the guys on the FloBot Workshop were discretionary traders who either wanted to add to their incomes by diversifying into auto or were wanting to switch to auto to earn more than they could as a discretionary trader.
Traders have been complaining bitterly about the ES. While the ES has much reduced volume and volatility, there is still plenty of money to be made in it. Although I like other markets better, the depth of the ES provides a lot of benefits for trading size. But adjustments need to be made. We are in Transitional markets and I've dropped the range bars to 3 points for today's trading. The results speak for themselves. Same methodology, I just adjusted my glasses.

Understanding Facebook @Tags for Business
Social Media sites like Facebook and Twitter play a large part in what we read and see online. People find that they get their information about what is going on faster by seeing what their friends post and tweet about rather than conventional news sources. As a small business - it's important to understand how you can make these two 'tricks' work for you as well....don't worry - it's easy
@Tags in Facebook
What is a @Tag?
A tag links a person, page, or place to something you post, like a status update or a photo. For example, you can tag a photo which will link to the people in the photo or post a status update and say who you’re referencing.

What do they do?
- Tagging people, pages and places in your posts lets others know more about who you’re with, what’s on your mind and where you are. turn on Profile (Timeline) Review to review and approve each tagged post before it goes on your profile (timeline) or exclude some people from seeing tagged posts of you on your Wall (timeline).
- When you tag someone, they'll be notified. Also, if you or a friend tags someone in your post and it's set to Friends or more, the post is visible to the audience you selected plus friends of the tagged person.
- When someone tags you in a post, your friends may see what you’re tagged in on Facebook. The tagged post also goes on your profile (timeline). If you’d like, you can
How do I use @Tags?
- To tag a person - Before you begin to type a person's name, type the "@" symbol and then begin typing their name. Facebook will automatically begin suggesting friends you might be referencing. (see image below)
To tag a business or page - Follow the same process as when tagging a person but instead type the business name and select it from the suggestions that Facebook provides.
- Once you have selected the person, place or page you want to tag it will appear blue and be a live link.
- Everytime someone tags your Business page on Facebook - your stats will increase (# of people talking about this).
To learn more, check out Facebook's guide to tagging.
It might be a little confusing or awkward at first but tagging is vital at spreading your message and spreading the love on Facebook - a good thing for small business in the social media world.

#Hashtags in Twitter
What is a hashtag?
According to Twitter: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.
What do they do?
- People use the hashtag symbol # before relevant keywords in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets which are more easily displayed in Twitter Search
- Clicking on a hash-tagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets in that category
- Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet
- Hashtagged words that become very popular are often labeled as 'Trending Topics'
How do I use hashtags?
- If you Tweet with a hashtag on a public account, anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet (obviously this means that people looking for your type of business could find you)
- Don't #spam #with #hashtags. Don't over-tag a single Tweet. (See Twitter's Best practices which recommend using no more than 3 hashtags per Tweet.)
- Use hashtags only on Tweets relevant to the topic
- Don't use spaces between words. The hashtag will only attach to the word attached to it so if you want to tag "landscape design" - use #landscapedesign or if you want to tag your business name "ABC Fitness" - use #abcfitness.
Further Discovery and Reading
- The third party site hashtags.org offers an overview of popular hashtags used on Twitter. Find out about trends, look at small, pretty graphs, and search to see which hashtags related to your business or industry exist.

LONDON FASHION WEEK - ARE YOU AND YOUR COLLECTION READY?
Well it's now three weeks today until London Fashion Week opens, and for all designers involved, whether they are have a stand at one of the exhibitions or are showing on the catwalk, the workload is building and stress levels are rising.
It always fascinates me that brands commit to showing a few months in advance and therefore, in theory, there is more than enough time to design and make up your collection.
Except that there are, of course, so many variables including, your sample materials or trimmings don't arrive on time, the factory can't get the make right, let alone when only a week before the season starts you decide you don't like what you've designed at all and want to start again!!
Although to some extent designers do thrive on the adrenalin of working close to the wire, invariably it ends up a last minute panic and by the time you get to opening day you are so tired you can't think.
Here are a few tips to help you survive the next few weeks:-
If you have any other tips/comments please do post them.
Good Luck!!

Here are a few tips to help you survive the next few weeks:-
- Every morning block out half an hour of 'you time' so you can sit quietly and review what stage you are at and what you need to achieve for the day. Do this before you get involved with emails, calls, machinists ect
- Update your To Do list from the previous day and create your new list for the day.
- Prioritise your actions so you quickly can see the tasks that need your immediate attention and those not so urgent.
- If you haven't done so already - set up a sampling schedule spreadsheet - this should list all the samples you are making as part of your new collection, who is making them, the materials being used , columns for waiting to get made, in work and samples completed. You should then be able to see at a glance at what stage your collection is at and monitor progress.
- Once you are clear of your plan of action for the day - communicate with your staff or anyone working with you - make sure there are no issues you should be aware of.
- Check your sampling schedule and make sure everything is fine with your sample machinists.
- If there are any problems - tackle them straight away otherwise they will loom over you and hamper your productivity.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Try and get some good nights sleep.
If you have any other tips/comments please do post them.
Good Luck!!

Tough Trading?
The Transition continues. Lots of changes in the market, still. There are a number of people telling me how tough it's been this year. Yes, some markets are suffering from the way that the transition is going but others are not. You can't be just a one trick pony in these days of electronic markets.
I wake up early and part of my morning routine is to scour the overnight news and the overnight markets as well as the Forex Factory's economic calendar. All this, to get a handle on what markets I should focus on for the day. I turn CNBC on while I'm doing this - I switch to music later - so I can see what subjects are interesting people.
From all this, I pick what I will focus on. I am a trader. Not just an ES trader or a DAX trader or a Crude trader. If it has volume and volatility I can trade it. Being market agnostic is important for longevity in this biz.
Coming Into Your Own
When I was a senior in high school, I was not the most popular girl in the world. On the outside, I was kind of a goody two-shoes. A girl who did everything right - joined all of the clubs, got straight A's, etc. etc. But on the inside, I was an awkward mess. I had no idea how to put together cute outfits the way some girls seemed to do effortlessly on a daily basis. My face was constantly broken out. I felt awkward in my own body, never knowing how to act in a crowd or get into the parties.
I found out later that a lot of the people in my school thought I was stuck up, but that wasn't the truth at all. In truth, I was painfully self-conscious. What other people saw as confidence, I felt as never-good-enough.
That's when my mother showed me an audition announcement in the paper. The Macon Little Theater was putting on Fiddler on The Roof, one of my absolute favorite musicals. I'd grown up watching the movie version of the musical and singing along, especially with the character of Hodel, the beautiful second oldest daughter who falls in love with the revolutionary and follows him to prison in Siberia. The moment I read about the audition, I knew I wanted that part. I didn't care that the theater was almost an hour away.
When I got to that audition and saw how many other girls my age had shown up, my self-doubt rose to the surface. But the second I got on the stage to sing, I was a new person. I was Hodel. I felt instantly transformed. I won the part and loved every minute of my time working on the musical. I met new friends that saw me as a true part of their group. I found new confidence each time I stepped onto the stage. I found a beauty within myself I hadn't realized was there. For the first time in my life, I had come into my own.
And isn't that something we all love about Young Adult fiction? Isn't that something we can all relate to? We've all felt awkward at some point in our lives, haven't we? One thing I love about reading YA is that we recognize ourselves in these young heroines. We know her pain. That gawky girl resonates with us. The heroine who doesn't yet understand who she is or what her true destiny is? She's just like us.
There's magic in that moment of coming into your own. Of suddenly finding that one thing that you were always meant to do. The one place where you suddenly shine. For Harper, the main character in my Peachville High Demons series, it's not until Book 5 that she truly comes into her own and realizes who she is and where her power comes from. It's a powerful moment, just like it was for me playing Hodel in that community theater production. I found a confidence that year that led me to take other risks. Risks like self-publishing and quitting my job to become a full time writer.
Do you have a favorite YA heroine that we get to see come into her own? What was one moment in your life where something suddenly clicked and you knew you had found something magical for yourself?

Genetic testing during pregnancy, before pregnancy, or before dating?
Last week, I discussed genetic tests that aim to detect disorders in a foetus during pregnancy. This week, I look at pre-pregnancy or carrier tests. These tests are taken by couples that are considering having a baby, but are worried about the genetic disorders that they may pass on, possibly because there is a history of genetic disease in the family. The couple can then base their decision on how to go ahead with family planning on the test results.
There is an overlap between what pre-pregnancy tests do and the services offered by more traditional genetic counselors and clinical geneticists. In fact, most companies market their preconception tests via genetic clinics, rather than directly to consumers. Whether direct-to-consumer genetic tests should be legal at all is still being debated in many countries.
Two companies that develop sequencing-based preconception tests are Good Start Genetics and Ambry. Counsyl, another company in the sector, uses array-based technology. The number of disorders that can currently be detected with pre-pregnancy tests is higher than what is possible with non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. Whilst Sequenom's prenatal test returns information about a single disorder (trisomy 21), Good Start's test diagnoses 22 disorders, Counsyl's over 100, and Ambry's 90. But even once the providers of prenatal tests catch up, there is still the question if it makes sense to screen for less severe conditions. Do parents really want to know that their baby boy will suffer from pattern baldness once he grows up? The number of conditions that can be diagnosed is likely to be different from the number of conditions that are actionable.
But why stop at genetic counselling for couples? The start-up Gmatch plans to offer genotyping to the customers of an online dating website who want their future partner not only to be compatible socially, but to be a perfect genetic match as well.
Next week, I'll look at the third way besides prenatal and pre-pregancy diagnosis: Pre-implantation diagnosis.

Welcome customers into your business on Google
(Cross-posted on the Lat Long Blog.)
When we initially announced the Business Photos pilot program, we wanted to give business owners an easy way to get customers in the door online using interactive, high-quality, 360-degree images of places on Google Maps and on Google Search results. With thousands of businesses under our belt — from salons to gift shops — we’ve been hearing the same question again and again from both business owners and photographers alike: How can I participate?
It’s simple. Visit our new website and search for a Google Trusted Photographer in your area. Either email or call a photographer in your area to schedule a time and agree on a price that you will pay the photographer for a photoshoot of your business. This self-serve model makes for easier scheduling and quicker turnaround, while also supporting the local photographers in your community. During the hour it should take for the shoot, you can collaborate with the photographer about how best to display and capture your business. When finished, the photographer will upload the images to Google, and shortly thereafter, you’ll see 360-degree panoramic views of your business on Google.com, Google Maps and on your Google Places listing.
Trusted Photographers are available in 14 U.S. cities, as well as in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and France. Don’t see a photographer in your area? Let us know, as that will help us determine where more Trusted Photographers are needed.

All You Need To Know About Nursing Education
Unlike in the earlier years when nursing was viewed as apprenticeship that was commonly undertaken by the religious lot and the convents, lately it has become one of the most admired career paths, due to the several benefits attached to the career. For anyone looking for an exciting and rewarding career, you agree with me that nursing is with no doubt one of them. However, one has to go through some intensive training for them to be qualified and certified. Considering the wide range of institutions claiming to offer the best nursing education today, you need to be very careful in choosing the best institution. First, you need to ensure that the online education offered is not mediocre. The only way you can do this is by taking time to find out if the institution you pick on is reputable, not to mention that it should be certified and licensed by the relevant bodies in your area of residence.
You can also get the best schools by seeking recommendations from people who have gone through this career path before. A good institution will make sure that the students are well versed in the medical fields both practically and theoretically. The course takes four years to complete and can be specialized into quite a good number of areas. This includes the nursing specializations in pediatric, mental health and postoperative nursing among many others. The entry levels are quite numerous. One can choose to go for the diploma, undergraduate or the masters program depending on their qualifications, at the time they make the application. Whichever program that you are interested in, you can be sure to reap some good benefits in the long-run. The better news is the fact that, one can take the nursing online education. You can hence let go the worries of a busy schedule that will never let you take the course in peace. From the comfort of your home, you can take the online classes when you are most flexible and become a certified nurse just as long as you meet all the requirements.
To find the best most affordable institutions to take the courses from, one needs to take time to compare the rates of several institutions. This way, they have a chance to settle on the lowest prices school. One also needs to ensure that if they pick on an online school, it is recognized and the online courses are recognized in their area of residence. One cannot afford to have online nursing education in a place where people have no idea that it even exists in the first place. This would be a waste of both time and money.

Longer Term Trading
There's been a few questions during the last week or so about longer term trading. As I said before, I use options to trade a longer term time frame. I use both debit and credit strategies, depending upon what I want to do.
The pic below shows the $RUT (Russell 200 index - cash market index not tradeable) that I trade options against.
The market is right at the 127Fib point and can either break out or turn back down. My best guess is the down but that's what it is - a guess. I can do a lot of things here but I favour a Put Butterfly: BUY 1 840 Put, SELL 2 780 Puts and BUY 1 730 Put - All march. This is a fairly aggressive position and looks like this:
If I put the position on - it's morning here in France and the options market won't open for another 7 hours or so - it will be be a position that I have to manage and adjust. It's not a set and forget trade. I can make money by time decay as well as by a drop in volatility. The position also is biased for the downside and I can make money like that too. So I have 2 out of 3 possibilities of making money: The market doesn't move or the market moves down. I can take a decent move up before I adjust so the trade is a good probability trade for me once I decide to put it on.
To be continued......

Time flies...
Has it really been over a month since my last blog post? Wow i don't know how i had time to do this every week once upon a time. I hope you all had an absolutely amazing holiday season and are relaxed and revved up ready for another big year. I know i am! I even had a fortune teller walk into the shop the other day and tell me that i was a lucky lady and that this was going to be a great year for me.
We've had lots of evolution happening at the Hub, especially in The Picnic Room. We had so many people requesting to do birthdays in there that we have gone full steam ahead in promoting it as a venue for all budgets. You can now hire it as space only, custom styled or fully styled with a character host. I think in the first week of my advertising it we had around 10 bookings so it's great to be able to use that space for such fun events. Mothers groups and play date groups can still use the space for free during the week, you just need to book via phone or email. Here's a graphics pack we put together for a 1 year old bday bash recently.
Our next one coming up is this Sunday and it's our Fairy Flutterby Tea Party and Puppet Show! Great for all ages, buy tickets online here.

Wednesday is Fed Day
The market anticipates comments from the Fed that U.S. interest rates will stay low for a long time. There's a press conference today in line with the new Fed policy that mirrors that of the ECB.
The DAX chart - 3 point Renko - is a biz as usual type day. The last two trades were outside in and the last trade was a double down of the second last one. The stop on the trade was the high to the left at 6409.5.

The Persistent Paranormal

Vampires, werewolves, fallen angels, ghosts, zombies: I’ve been a fan of the paranormal for over two decades. It’s no surprise that my obsession should turn into a career writing paranormal fiction. But how much is too much? With the advent of series such as Twilight, Shiver, The Mortal Instruments, and beyond, it would be easy to think that the paranormal fad had run it’s course.
Am I doomed to a reading life without vampires? Are werewolves too cliche to cuddle up to? Have fallen angels fallen out of favor?
I say no. For over 200 years, paranormal fiction has offered an escape that leaves us questioning what it means to be human. These stories help us appreciate the beauty of life through the eyes of the characters who don't have it, the dead and undead, and experience the forbidden fruit of crossing the line between good and evil. These themes will never go out of style, even if certain portrayals of the entities behind them do.
Lucky for me and the rest of the reading public, talented authors keep coming up with new ways to make the genre fresh and the characters complex. Did someone say Trolls? Amanda Hocking’s Switched is a clever take. Mermaids? Check out Tangled Tides by Karen Amanda Hooper. Mind reading and telekinesis? Try Susan Kaye Quinn’s Open Minds or Karly Kirkpatrick's Into the Shadows. And if J.R. Ward and Charmaine Harris have taught us anything, it is that vampires and shifters are here to stay, even more than ten books into a series.
What do you think? Paranormal, dead or undead? I’d love to hear your opinion.

Just Another Day at the Office
Today's chart is the Euro future: 3 tick Renko box. I really do prefer the Renko nowadays for my discretionary trading as the charts are so clean and the noise is filtered.
The second and the third are outside in trades and the last trade on the chart was is still open as I write this.
The extra cyan lines are regular Bollinger Bands. They are good to use for outside in trades.

Trading what is moving
I'm a trader and I trade what moves. I need volatility to make money, so I go where the action is. In the pit, we traded "our" market. We belonged to a "crowd" - guys who I stood next to every day and against whom I competed. If our pit had a quiet day, that was reflected in my earnings.
Moving upstairs, the world became my oyster again and I could trade what was moving.
I am an advocate of 1 chart and 1 market until a trader masters his craft. After that, be a trader. Trade. Trade what is moving.
Today I'm showing my Light Crude action. A good day, whether you traded the London or U.S. morning.

A Public Service Annoucement
Two definitions from Dictionary.com:
Arachne – noun Classical Mythology
A Lydian woman who challenged Athena to a weaving contest and was changed into a spider for her presumption.
Myth – noun
Fictitious story, often ancient.
Sometimes myth holds a glimmer of fact. In Arachne’s case, a woman was changed into a spider. Fact. Her name was Arachne. Fact. She was Lydian. This is where fact becomes muddled with myth, but that’s not important here.
What is important is that humans presume that if something cannot be proven, it’s a myth. Humans also believe that everything on this planet is here for their consumption, to use and dispose of as they please, no matter the consequence. What will happen to humans for their presumption?
One more thing. Bug spray? Yeah, it won’t help you. Sometimes, however, the consequences of our presumptions may be the only thing that can save us.

Arachne is not a myth and her descendants are tired of being stomped on.

How large a market for prenatal diagnosis by sequencing?
Prenatal diagnosis is one of the most interesting clinical applications of sequencing. The idea behind prenatal diagnosis is that potential disorders that a foetus may have are detected before birth, so that the parents can decide what to do about it. A widespread and ancient technology is ultrasound. An alternative method involves sampling of the amniotic fluid surrounding the foetus with a large needle (amniocentesis), which causes a miscarriage in 1% of cases. More recently genetic screening technologies, including sequencing, have entered the market.
The most prominent company offering prenatal diagnosis by screening is Sequenom. This week, Sequenom announced a public offering of shares valued in excess of $50m. The aim is to finance further expansion of its business, including sales of its MaterniT21 prenatal test.
The principle behind the MaterniT21 test is that some of the DNA in a pregnant woman's blood is of foetal origin. By sequencing that DNA, it is in principle possible to reconstruct most of the genotype of the foetus, and to detect most genetic disorders from the 10th week of pregnancy onwards- earlier than with equivalent tests.
Sequenom's MaterniT21 test currently only returns information on whether there is an third copy of chromosome 21, which causes Down syndrome. If the test returns a positive result, the parents can then decide which actions to take, which could include termination of the pregnancy.
Sequenom is reported to charge $2,700 per test to insurance companies, which is likely to be the cost to them many times over. Therefore there should be plenty of room for prices to come down once there is more competition. That there will be more competition is likely. In the United States, Verinata, which raised $47m in autumn 2011, and TrovaGene are also working on technology based on sequencing foetal DNA from the mother's blood. In Germany, LifeCodexx is developing a similar test, licencing technology from Sequenom.
Even at lower prices, which will probably be paid for by insurers anyway, the big question is how many couples are willing to purchase a test. Of 4.1 million births each year in the US, 750,000 (18%) are judged to be at a high risk of Down syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities, either because the mother is over 35 years old or because there is a history of such disorders in the family.
It is likely that in the future the tests of Sequenom and its competitors will include other disorders such as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, anaemia, neuropsychiatric conditions like autism, and beta-thalassaemia. This could widen their appeal to parents that are not in the 18% currently judged as high risk. If prices come down sufficiently, I don't see a reason why sequencing-based tests for pregnant women could not be as prevalent as ultrasound is today.
At 4.1 million births in the US alone each year, and even if the price of tests decreases to a fraction of what they are now, it could well be a multi-billion dollar market.
Time to buy some of those new Sequenom shares?

Make a Good Coupon that Increases Profits
Huge companies spend millions of dollars on focus groups and marketing afficionados to create promotion campaigns and coupons that will bring buyers in the door. As small to medium business owners - we don't have that luxury...or do we? Small business owners need to start employing their observation skills and with a little homework - you'll come up with coupons and promotions that rock!
Definition of a Good Coupon (and a Bad one!)
Some people spend their whole marketing careers creating the definitive "Good Coupon" (ie: a coupon that brings the customer to you and yet doesn't cost too much in profit) and avoiding a bad coupon (usually a coupon that gets no response). Small business owners can see a dramatic improvement in their profits by offering a good coupon. To make a good coupon, you need to think like your customers. That bears repeating and emphasis - THINK LIKE YOUR CUSTOMER! What would make you clip that coupon and go use it? What kind of coupon calls you to check out a business if you've never used them before? What coupons do you skip?
Be Specific About What You Want
Its amazing how many small businesses don't think about what they want their coupons to do. If you don't know exactly the response your want your coupon to generate - I can guarantee...it doesn't either! You have to be specific with the goal of EACH coupon you offer. Do you want new customers? Do you want your regular customers to come in more? Do you want to move a specific product? Do you want people to refer you? Make sure you focus and build your coupon to answer one specific goal. If you are offering several coupons be sure to define each one with dotted/hashed lines or with colors so it's easy for the customer to identify which ones might interest him or her.
Discount Something that your Customer is Actually Interested InA coupon advertises a discount for a limited period of time on a product or service. You may have an low cost/high profit item that you WANT people to purchase however if that's not the item that is currently bringing customers in the door, your coupon (unless it is a very deep discount) is not going to be as effective. An example of this is a hair salon that only gives coupons on their products - not the hair services themselves! My Advice...Get me in the door with a coupon on a hair cut or color (probably the reason I'm coming in the first place) and when I see how fabulous I look - THEN I might actually buy the products.
Be Careful When Limiting Who Can Use the Coupon
People dislike fine print. There's nothing I despise more than when I take a coupon and try to use it only to learn that my coupon does not apply to me because I am an existing customer. Why would you not want to reward your current customers for shopping with you? If you only offer an incentive for new clients - then why should they become a reoccuring one? If you are discounting a service that only a very limited number of people can use, make sure you are offering a variety of coupons at the same time that together will include everyone. If you are requiring a minimum purchase amount for the discount to be viable - make sure it's just above or at the average price point people buy from you.
Create Urgency with An Expiration Date
Expiration dates create an sense of urgency that your customer will need to act quickly to use and benefit from the coupon. Experiment with expiration dates. A date that is too close can be disastrous if your marketing strategy doesn't get the coupon out in time. Plus it doesn't give people enough time to redeem it. A date too far away will be forgotten. Depending on your advertising, what your discount is and the nature of your business, 2 weeks to 1 month can be a good time frame for a coupon expiration date. Online deals can expire more quickly than ones that require in-store purchase.
Offer a Discount not just a 'Coupon'
Statistics show that people don't respond if a coupon's face value is too small. I recently saw a coupon for a medical office that offered $1.00 off an office visit. Their visit costs, on average, $35.00 so their coupon gave me less than 3% off. That doesn't make me want to respond to that coupon at all. In fact I was almost turned off to the business itself for offering such a bad coupon. This is where you need to put your customer hat back on. If you see 10% off, 15% off or 20% off coupons - which do you respond to? You may cringe at the idea of offering a 20% off coupon but think about successful chains like Macy's which focus millions of dollars on this marketing strategy that people come shop with them more if they believe they'll save with their coupon.
Create a Coupon Strategy and Go For It!
If you want to do a semi annual or annual deep discount coupon then plan it out and market accordingly. If you want people to consistently check your website or store for coupons then offer a variety and consistently market them. Look at what larger companies in your industry or ones like yours are doing. If it works for them - it might work for you! Whatever you decide - plan it out and execute it. That doesn't mean you can't modify your plan as you find coupons that work or fail. It means you are taking an active role in this side of your marketing strategy.

Broadcasting Schools Refine Natural Skills
Broadcasting schools have always offered training for television and radio news professions, but these schools now train students for online newscasting and journalism as well. Natural skills and attributes, such as a strong voice, good diction, writing skills, love of public speaking and communications, working well under pressure to meet deadlines, and ability to research facts and issues to create sound stories, are all good indicators for success in this field.
Degrees from traditional four-year colleges and universities prepare students for bringing mass communications of all kinds to the eyes and ears of the public. Broadcasting schools located in vocational and technical schools and community colleges also train for local news broadcasts, sports announcing, political press, music and entertainment broadcasting, and much more. Advanced programs in broadcasting often focus on "new" types of broadcast journalism, some of which are advocacy journalism, infotainment and celebrity journalism, science journalism, and investigative journalism.
A broadcasting education can also prepare students for careers behind the scenes, operating cameras and microphones, or managing recording equipment and other broadcasting devices. Students can get experience with editing, producing, and directing news broadcasts for radio, television, and media of all kinds.
Broadcasting schools in colleges and universities, as well as online these days, provide important services to magazine, newspaper, radio, television, and Internet journalism. They provide skills for exposing the public to vital communications about people and events; they help develop the skills tomorrow's journalists need to report and influence public opinion, public affairs, political action, and public response. Broadcasting schools affect the world by teaching effective ways of creating and reporting stories, filming the actions, shaping, hosting and editing news, and providing the public with education and entertainment.
Future broadcast journalists learn to take on duties of developing ideas for stories; conducting interviews, researching, preparing, and shooting video; preparing scripts and news copy for live and taped programs; preparing and publishing radio, television, and Web productions; and acting as radio DJs and television anchors.
There are many large and small broadcasting schools in traditional and online colleges and universities providing extensive studies that can lead to bachelor and master degrees in various areas of Journalism. If you truly enjoy reading, writing, journaling, and news, check out some broadcasting schools that focus on your special interests and begin the journey. This may be first step that sets you on the career path of your dreams!
